Ya Heard? Artist Gets Big Break
(original source unknown)
Dude
is Hawaiian? Sure, when you look at him. But download Justin Young's single
"Sip Your
Wine," listen to the smooth acoustics and you'd swear he's one of
those smooth brothers from Harlem or Detroit.
But look at this 20-something R&B singer/songwriter and
not only are you looking at a native Hawaiian, but a rising star who
uploaded his song to BET.com's "Ya Heard?" section and ended up
being signed to the "Uninvited Guest" soundtrack after producers
downloaded the single.
Now, "Sip Your Wine," along with songs by Boyz II
Men's Wanya Morris, Nas, 8-Ball, Tony Terry and others, will be featured on
the Warner Brothers soundtrack for Mekhi Phifer's latest film,
"Uninvited Guest." The soundtrack will be in stores November 3rd
and will feature Wanya Morris' first single.
But don't get it twisted. While Ya Heard? is for unsigned
artists, Young isn't necessarily new to the game. He's already had a string
of number 1 hits on the islands, opened for Brian McKnight and has three
Hawaiian Music Awards on his mantle.
When Young isn't crooning, he's booking it at UCLA where he
is an entertainment studies major.
